What to expect from sod installation
Most lawns are a one-day install. We prep the ground, lay the sod, and leave you with a short watering note.
Usually one day
We come see the yard, check the sun and any wet spots, and schedule the install. On that day we take out the old grass, smooth the ground, and lay the new sod. You should have a finished lawn before we leave.
If a stump or soft spot would make the lawn sink, we take care of it before the grass goes down. We’ll tell you if that means waiting. We won’t leave you with a dip.
We pick the grass
A shady side yard and a sunny backyard are not the same grass. Fescue stays greener in winter and handles some shade. Bermuda and Zoysia like sun and stand up to kids and dogs. We tell you which one belongs on your lot. You don’t have to sort through variety names.
If a corner is too dark for any lawn, we’ll say so and suggest plants or mulch there instead of forcing sod into a spot that will thin out.
After we leave
Water it that evening. Keep people and dogs off it while it roots, usually a couple of weeks. We leave a short note on watering and when to mow. You don’t need a schedule to memorize.
If an edge lifts or a corner turns brown, text a photo. Don’t fertilize it or pull it up. Most of those spots are easy to fix in the first few days.
Common questions
Do you install sod outside Raleigh?
Yes. We work in Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Knightdale, Wake Forest, Durham, and the rest of the Triangle. Send the address and we’ll tell you if we can get there.
What if the yard stays wet?
We fix that before we lay sod. A new lawn in a spot that holds water dies the same way the old one did. You don’t have to figure out the drain. We will.
How soon can we walk on it?
Give it about two weeks. We’ll tell you when it’s ready, and we’ll leave watering instructions with you the day we finish.
